Fire Protection & Controlled Burns:

An important difference to note between living in a rural municipality vs an urban, is that landowners/homeowners are responsible for the costs of Fire Protection. This means, if you have any type of fire event on your property and the Fire Department responds to it, you will be invoiced for the cost. It is important to have a conversation with your insurance company about this and ensure you have adequate coverage. Also, if you have any controlled burns on your property, such as burning barrels, burning sloughs, etc. it is highly recommended that you register your controlled burn by calling the provincial dispatch at 1-866-404-4911. By registering your controlled burns, it prevents fire departments from being dispatched if a bystander was to call 911 due to an unknown fire (unfortunately this is a common occurrence).
